Format: The history group is an established group which meets in the local library once a month. The members of the group are enthusiastic and friendly. We all research historical events, important moments in history and people and everyone contributes to the talks.

The Tudor Exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery in June 2022

The talks can be as short as 5 minutes followed by lively discussion, plus questions and answers. We have discussed modern history starting from World War I, researching British, European, American and World History spanning 5 or 10 year periods. The topics are very varied and can range from people, politics, treaties, the arts, Olympics, the build up to wars, the economics, industries and society. Some are even drawn from personal recollections, so they are fascinating sessions. Generally, people choose the subject matter they are interested in for the place or period we are discussing. Occasionally to get the best from particular periods suggestions for topics are made so important subjects aren’t missed.

We occasionally go on visits for talks (Grosvenor Museum, Chester) or exhibitions. Our most recent visit took us to Liverpool to the excellent Tudor Exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery. We viewed artifacts and painting never previously seen outside London and some had never been exhibited before.

At the session we pay £1.00 a head for refreshments, this helps support the library for our 2 hour session.
